From the inside cover: "This 'Bird Spotting' series is recommended by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds as a general introduction to bird identification, especially suitable for young persons."

Note that there is a multi-volume series of six volumes and a single volume that appears to be a 'collected' version. All appear to have been reissued a number of times. I have not yet worked out the publishing history so there may be mistakes relating to publication dates and cover images.

This appears to be a single volume that combines, in some way, the six volumes listed above. Uncertain if 1963 was the first edition publication date. There were a number of editions of this book all 250 pages plus.
