Walking on Jersey: 24 Routes And The Jersey Coastal Walk

Paddy Dillon

Cicerone Guides

Cicerone Presss

2nd edition

2011

"A walking guide to the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands describes 24 walks, parts of many of which can be combined to make up the Jersey Coastal Walk and part of the Channel Islands Way. Famous for sunshine, history and a wonderful coastline, Jersey is an intriguing destination for travellers. Outwardly British but with French overtones, the island has a long tourist season and is often busy with visitors. The walks in this guide use good paths and tracks as well as quiet country roads. Occasionally, more rugged paths are used to explore the excellent cliff coastline. Jersey has plenty of interesting historical sites and attractions to visit including castles, churches and museums."

The Birds of Alderney

Jeremy G Sanders

Illustrations: Carmen Watson

2007

"This is the first book ever published on the birds of the British Channel Island of Alderney. It covers more than 130 years of recording, from published and unpublished sources, including records from over 100 amateur observers. Less than four miles by one and a half miles in size, the small island of Alderney is an important stopover for migrating birds. It also has important seabird populations. The book is divided into several sections. A general description of Alderney introduces the reader to the island and its birds. A section on ornithology in Alderney describes some of the personalities who have contributed to our knowledge of Alderney's birds over the years. The main section is the systematic List, which gives the status of every species of bird recorded on Alderney, as far as is known. Sketches of Alderney's birds show some of the more common birds in their natural settings."

The Birds Of Guernsey: And The Neighboring Islands Alderney, Sark, Jethou, Herm

Being A Small Contribution To The Ornithology Of The Channel Islands

Cecil Smith

R.H. Porter

1879

From the preface:

"Though perhaps not possessing the interest to the ornithologist which Lundy Island (the only breeding-place of the Gannet in the South-West of England) or the Scilly Islands possess, or being able to produce the long Hst of birds which the indefatigable Mr. Gaetke has been able to do for his little island, Heligoland, the avifauna of Guernsey and the neighbouring islands is by no means devoid of interest ; and as little has hitherto been published about the Birds of Guernsey and the neighbouring islands, except in a few occasional papers published by Miss C. B. Carey, Mr. Harvie Browne, myself, and a few others, in the pages of the 'Zoologist,' I make no excuse for publishing this list of the birds, which, as an occasional visitor to the Channel Islands for now some thirty years, have in some way been brought to my notice as occurring in these Islands either as residents, migrants, or occasional visitants."
