Robins and ChatsPeter Clement and Chris Rose
Helm Identification Guides
Christopher Helm
2015
"This authoritative handbook, part of the Helm Identification Guides series, looks in detail at the world's 170 species of robins and chats. This large family of small passerines was formerly considered to be part of the thrush family (Turdidae), but is now usually treated as a separate family, Muscicapidae, together with the Old World flycatchers. The vast majority of species are Eurasian or African, with only a handful of species straying into the New World or Australasia. The Australian Robins, although superficially similar, have long been regarded as a separate family. Robins and chats are a diverse family comprising both highly colourful and visible species, such as the robin-chats of Africa, as well as some of the most skulking and elusive birds, such as the shortwings of Asia. Many chats, such as the well-known Nightingale, are renowned songsters, and a good number are highly sought-after by world listers for their extreme rarity or simply because they are hard to see.
This book discusses the identification and habits of these birds on a species-by-species basis, bringing together the very latest research with accurate range maps, more than 600 stunning colour photographs that illustrate age and racial plumage differences, and 64 superb colour plates by the internationally renowned artist, Chris Rose."

Drawing and Painting BirdsTim Wootton
Crowood Press
2010
Includes two reproductions of Chis Rose paintings.
"Birds are much admired, revered and envied. They have featured in art for many thousands of years and our fascination with them continues. They do though pose a challenge to paint and are not always the most cooperative of models. By understanding their anatomy and recognising their type, the artist can learn a shorthand way to capture movement and attitude. With technique and colour mastered, style develops and a special scene can be captured uniquely forever."

The Great Fen: Artists For Nature In EnglandChris Gerrard
Langford Press
2006
"Inspired by the potential of lowland England's most ambitious habitat restoration project, twenty nine artists produced work that shows the riches that hang on in the remnants of fenland. These remnants will be enhanced as the Great Fen Project acquires more land and achieves its first objective of linking Woodwalton Fen and Holme Fen National Nature Reserves. This book features the body of work generated from the artistic reaction to this unique landscape. It shows a variety of styles and topics, ranging across field sketches of birds and other animals, detailed botanical and entomological studies, landscapes that are instantly recognisable and landscapes that are almost abstract, sculptures using scrap metal found in the area, and transient paintings of dragonflies on bog oaks dug from the peat. Their artistic vision matches the vision that has inspired the Great Fen Project."
Artists: Carry Akroyd; Kim Atkinson; Ysbrand Brouwers; Ad Cameron; Corrie Cameron; Iraida Cano; Denis Clavreul; Victoria Crowe; Charles Donker; Barry W. Van Dusen; Piet Eggen; Yvonne Glenister Hammond; Vadim Gorbatov; Andrew Haslen; Jane Leycester Paige; Harriet Mead; John Paige; Peter Partington; Bruce Pearson;Nik Pollard; Darren Rees; Andrea Rich; Chris Rose; Juan Varela Simo; Matt Underwood; Michael Warren; Wolfgang Weber; Darren Woodhead; John Wright; Jonathan Yule

Treasures of the Forgotten Forest: Artists For Nature in the Tumbesian Region of Peru and EcuadorRobert Williams
Wildlife Art Gallery
2004
"This book is the result of two journeys through the Tumbesian region of Peru and Ecuador by twenty wildlife artists from twelve countries. The artists responded to a request for help from a group of local conservation organisations, Bosques Sin Fronteras (BSF), which is seeking to maintain the biodiversity of the forests of the Tumbesian region. As a first step to raising awareness of the region's importance, Birdlife International, with help from WWF and other interested groups, is supporting the efforts of the Artists for Nature Foundation to help bring attention to the area through art. Some of the world's foremost wildlife artists were invited by Artists for Nature to paint and draw what they saw and witnessed as they travelled through this remarkable land. It is hoped that this compliation of their artworks will help illustrate the wonderful biodiversity of the Tumbesian Region and support the efforts of local groups, to work together for the long-term conservation and sustainable development of this globally important region."
Artists include: Kim Atkinson, Iraida Cano, Denis Clavreul, Jaap Deelder, Charles Donker, Vadim Gorbatov, Lars Jonsson, Bruce Pearson, Nik Pollard, Darren Rees, Chris Rose, Juan Varela Simo, Barry van Dusen, Michael Warren, Wolfgang Weber, Siegfried Woldhek, Darren Woodhead,

Birds of the Thai-Malay Peninsula, Volume 1: Non-PasserinesDavid R Wells
With contributions from Philip D. Round and Uthai Treesucon
Illustrations: Philip Burton, David Digby, Dana Gardner, Peter Hayman, Ian lewington, David Quinn, Chris Rose
Academic Press
1999
"This volume covers the avifauna of the Republic of Singapore, peninsular Malaysia, southern Thailand and the tip of Tenasserim (Burma), with their associated island archipelagos to latitude 11°N. This classic region of high biodiversity is home to a rich and special resident avifauna that is joined in season by a host of migrants from north Asia to create a fascinating faunal mix. Most of its bird species, and nearly all of those endemic to the region, reside in tropical forest habitats. Until surprisingly recently, these forests clothed most of the area. Now, one of the tropical world's fastest rates of agricultural conversion has swept them from all but a fraction of their former range, opening space to newcomers with quite different ecological requirements - a truly dramatic conservation problem under constant watch by ornithologists in all places accessible to field workers."

The Birds of the Western Palearctic: Concise EditionRobert Gillmor, Brian Hillcoat, C. S. Roselaar, Dorothy Vincent, D. I. M. Wallace, M. G. WilsonEditors: D. W. Snow, C. M. Perrins
Oxford University Press
1998
From the text on the inside of the book cover:
Here is the distilled esence of the definitive account of the birds of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa - BWP, as it is generally known to thousands of users. The abridgement has been made by members of the original editorial team under the general supervision of Professor C.M. Perrins of Oxford, who has acted as Consultant Editor. Dr. D.W. Snow has condensed the original text with masterly skill, retaining all the essential information in a fraction of the space. The Concise BWP also includes much significant new material. Accounts of more than eighty species has been added and the descriptions of field characters have been revised throughout. The population and distribution sections have been rewritten to take into account new information that has become available since BWP was published. The distribution maps have also been revised and brought up to date. They are now printed in full colour for maximum clarity, and hill shading has been added to indicate the relief. More than 230 magnificent new colour plates have been specially commissioned for this edition to illustrate newly added species or to replace earlier paintings used in BWP. Where the original paintings have been retained, they are now reproduced using the latest electronic scanning techniques. For greater convenience, all plates now appear in the text. Indexes in seven European languages are included in addition to the indexes of English and scientific names. The Concise BWP is an essential reference book for all who are interested in the birds of Europe, whether at the professional level or as amateurs.

American University of Armenia
1997
"A Field Guide to Birds of Armenia clearly and effectively documents the bird life of a region largely unknown in the West but richly endowed with biological and cultural diversity. Here an international team of expert ornithologists shines the international spotlight on the fascinating birds of Armenia in one of the world's newest and very best regional field guides. The authors and their expert collaborators describe the beauty and pleasure of Armenian birds and their diverse habitats. No other work offers such effective descriptions of Armenian birds. The detailed knowledge of species distributions and relative abundances will promote and ensure wise stewardship of birds as a valuable Armenian natural resource. An especially valuable contribution is the identification of species that are suspected or known to be at risk. Highlighting these species of special concern will encourage Armenian as well as international conservation efforts to maintain and, when appropriate, rebuild viable populations to these lands."

Bird Life of Woodland and ForestRobert J. Fuller
Illustrations: Chris Rose
Bird Life Series
Cambridge University Press
1995
"Woodlands offer birds an extremely wide range of habitats. In this book, the variation in bird life in woodlands, and the factors that influence bird numbers and distributions are examined. What birds are found in which habitats? What effect does forestry and woodland management have? How can we enhance bird populations by habitat management? Are bird numbers and distributions in natural and managed forests different - and if so, why? The gamut of British woodland is covered, from ancient coppice and wood-pasture in the lowlands, to recently-planted conifer forests in the uplands, and comparisons are drawn with mainland Europe and North America. The book discusses the effects of factors such as increased deer numbers, air-pollution and new wood creation on lowland farms, all of which are changing the face of our woodlands today. This book is a must for all those interested in woodlands, and the birds which live in them."

Bird Life of Mountain And UplandDerek Ratcliffe
Illustrations: Chris Rose
Bird Life Series
Cambridge University Press
1991
"This book describes the bird life of the various upland regions of the British Isles and presents the various species from an ecological standpoint. The book relates the bird distribution and abundance to the various environmental influences of climate, topography, geology, soil type and human land use. The book initially sets the scene by describing and examining the changes and bird fauna following the major climatic shift since the end of the Ice Age. The uplands are grouped into several main types - sheep-walks, grouse moors, deer forests, flows (peat bogs), maritime hills and high tops and the distinctive bird assemblages are described together with details of the natural history of the more important species. The book will appeal to the informed layman and to the keen bird-watcher who wants to learn more about the life of upland birds and the ways in which they are adapted to their environments."
