Handbook of the Birds of India and PakistanFirst editionThe Handbook of the Birds of India and Pakistan was published in ten volumes, by OUP India, between 1968 and 1974. A second edition of the handbook was published between 1978 and 2001. A single volume "compact" edition was published in 1983, incorporating text from the first edition of the handbook and early volumes of the second edition. The compact edition had new plates by John Henry Dick. A companion volume to the compact edition A Pictorial Guide to the Birds of the Indian Subcontinent comprising the new plates and very brief text was also published in 1983. An updated compact edition was published in 1987.
