Illustrations: Ian Willis
Poyser
2002
"Using a vast amount of data that the British Trust for Ornithology have collected from ringing recoveries, this title presents detailed and up-to-date information on bird migration. Since the ringing programme began in 1909, there have been around half a million recoveries of birds ringed in the UK. The data yielded have enabled the BTO to build up a picture of the movements of around 200 migratory species, and this book presents that information in a clear and concise format."

The EBCC Atlas of European Breeding Birds: Their Distribution and AbundanceEditor: Ward J.M. Hagemeijer and Michael J. Blair
Poyser
1997
"This landmark volume presents, for the first time, an integrated picture of the distribution and abundance of the breeding birds of Europe. The survey data, gathered by over 10,000 field ornithologists from every European country, in over 100 regional and national atlas projects, has been combined and mapped to show the presence or absence of 495 species in over 4400 50 x 50 km squares, many with data showing the present population size. The accompanying text written by a team of 450 authors in 38 countries elaborates on the mapped information, and presents data on a further 62 species too localised to map effectively. An international team of artists has provided lively illustrations of the mapped species."

1996
An account of the distribution changes of Britain and Ireland's birds over the period 1875 to 1900. Individual species accounts include text and large colour distribution maps. "This book brings together so much information from disparate sources, and its status maps present such a clear picture of our late Victorian avifauna, that it should take its place beside the BTO atlases on the bookshelf." The Summer Atlas of North American BirdsJ. Price, S. Droege and A. Price
Poyser
1995
"The North American Breeding Survey comprises a network of regularly censused, road-based survey routes and constitutes the most comprehensive set of data on the relative abundance and population trends of these birds during the summer months. In this book, Jeff and Amy Price and Sam Droege have used these data to create detailed, computer-generated maps showing the relative abundance of 449 species that summer in the contiguous United States and southern Canada. Tabular information on distribution hotspots for these, and an additional 50 species too local in occurrence to map effectively, are also presented. The maps provide a baseline for future and more regionally based studies. Supporting chapters provide details on the survey methodology, the mapping procedures used, and some current concerns in North American bird conservation. The maps provide an unprecedented level of information, and far surpass the general picture given by distribution maps in field guides. For the first time, detailed occurrence and relative abundance of each species is provided."
